The mayor, Carmen Álvarez, along with the delegate for Disability, Miguel Ángel Casal, participated in the event promoted by the Guadalquivir Association of Deaf People (Apesorgu). Present at the event, held in the Patio de Columnas of the Municipal Palace, were council members from the PP and Vox, the president of Apesorgu, José María Romero, the secretary Yolanda Ruiz, other association members, and the sign language interpreter Sara de la Rosa.
The manifesto, under the slogan "Reclaiming the rights of deaf people," recalled the progress achieved thanks to the activism of the deaf community, such as the inclusion of sign language and accessibility in the public agenda. It emphasized the difference between having rights and being able to exercise them, pointing to "non-compliance" as an obstacle that normalizes inequality and delays accessibility.
“"We are not talking about isolated cases. We are talking about inequality that, even today, is normalized. About accessibility that arrives late, arrives poorly, or does not arrive at all. About girls and boys who want to grow up without linguistic deprivation. About young people who demand real opportunities. About women and men who desire autonomy, respect, and dignity."
In light of this situation, the manifesto calls for "effective compliance with Law 27/2007 and its Regulations," demanding inclusive, multilingual, and quality education, early attention, interpretation and video-interpretation in public services, trained professionals, non-discriminatory employment, accessible information, and participation in policies affecting them.
Apesorgu positively valued the support of the Sanlúcar City Council, highlighting initiatives such as the sign language interpretation service for municipal procedures and institutional, social, and cultural events. The weekly information space and the broadcast of municipal plenary sessions through Costa Noroeste Televisión were also mentioned.
