The spokesperson for the majority party in the Córdoba City Council has strongly criticized the current situation, labeling the local socialist group's objections as “extreme cynicism.” According to the municipal representative, there is an attempt to blame the council for a problem that exceeds its jurisdiction and for which it has not received the necessary support.
The spokesperson indicated that the Central Government has transferred this complex task to city councils across Spain without offering precise guidance on how to proceed. He emphasized the lack of material and financial resources to address the required assistance, regretting that there has been no information about potential future compensation to cover these extraordinary expenses.
“"It is the Spanish Government that has created this complicated situation."
Furthermore, he denounced an “absolute lack of institutional loyalty” from the Spanish Government, asserting that there was no prior communication or coordination to address migrant regularization in the city. The City Council, despite it not being its own competence, is responding with its own resources in the “best possible way.”
Regarding the long queues generated for these procedures, the spokesperson urged Córdoba citizens to understand that this situation is a direct consequence of the Central Government's decisions. He compared these waits to those commonly seen in police stations for document processing like the DNI or passport, downplaying their exceptionality but insisting that city councils are forced to act “without any resources” provided by the State.
