The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility is seeking a location for the new agency that will centralize the investigation of railway, maritime, and aviation accidents, and Córdoba has confirmed its official bid.

The Councillor for Urban Planning, Miguel Ángel Torrico, announced this Wednesday Córdoba's intention to become the central headquarters for the independent administrative authority responsible for the technical investigation of accidents in the railway, maritime, and civil aviation sectors. This initiative stems from the need to consolidate the functions previously carried out by three separate entities into a single body.
Currently, the investigation of these incidents falls under the Permanent Commission for the Investigation of Maritime Accidents and Incidents (CIAIM), the Commission for the Investigation of Civil Aviation Accidents and Incidents (CIAIAC), and the Railway Accident Investigation Commission (CIAF). The Central Government's proposal aims to unify these functions into one entity, responding to growing demand following recent railway accidents.

"Córdoba is bidding to be the central headquarters of the independent administrative authority for the technical investigation of railway, maritime, and civil aviation accidents."

The urgent call for proposals issued by the Central Government requires the Córdoba City Council to formalize its candidacy before the end of the month, which is the deadline for submissions. Although no date has been set for the final decision, the city is positioning itself with an attractive offer.
Torrico highlighted that choosing Córdoba would create approximately «60 highly qualified jobs» that would remain in the city. These positions would be for professionals with backgrounds in engineering, law, and public management, representing a significant boost for local skilled employment.
To house the new headquarters, Córdoba proposes the offices at the El Arcángel stadium, leveraging the availability of public spaces. The agency requires a total of 2,300 square meters for offices, meeting rooms, archives, a press room, and an assembly hall. At El Arcángel, over 18,000 square meters are available, along with a parking area adjacent to the fairgrounds, thus meeting the Central Government's requirements.

"Córdoba is one of the main railway hubs, so this is a great opportunity for the city; we want to make it a reference for the railway world."

The councillor emphasized Córdoba's strategic importance as «one of the main railway hubs,» which, in his opinion, makes the city an ideal location for this agency. The consolidation of this body in Córdoba is seen as an opportunity to position the city as a benchmark in the railway sector.
