The city of Córdoba is experiencing a resurgence in basketball, driven by the success of the Coto Córdoba Basketball Club. This phenomenon is reminiscent of a previous period, more than two decades ago, when Cajasur Córdoba, despite limited resources, managed to establish itself in the FEB League (Second Division), fueling the dream of reaching the ACB.
To understand the current moment of Coto Córdoba, prominent figures from that Cajasur era have been consulted, sharing their perspectives on the team's growth and challenges. Among them, a former player who played for Cajasur Córdoba between 1997 and 2001, and who considers Córdoba his «second home», emphasizes the importance of the club's identity and playing philosophy.
“"If Coto has done well with a playing philosophy and a way of competing, it cannot change now that the playoffs are here. Small adjustments can be made to control the opponent's strengths and try to minimize them, but the important thing is to enhance what one knows how to do."
Another former player from Córdoba, who was also part of Cajasur, highlights the collective strength of the Coto Córdoba squad. According to his analysis, the team does not rely on marked individualities, but on a good atmosphere and cohesion that is perceived from the outside. He attributes much of this merit to the sports management, which has successfully built a squad with suitable profiles and generated a strong club feeling.
A third former player, with an 18-year career in basketball, including two seasons at Cajasur Córdoba, emphasizes the relevance of the city once again having a team of this level. While acknowledging Coto Córdoba's effort to create a solvent team, he also points out the need for players to overcome the inconsistency shown throughout the season and focus on a solid defense for all 40 minutes of the game.
The path to Primera FEB, though ambitious, no longer seems unattainable in the medium term. However, experts warn about the demands of the category, which requires good sponsors and real institutional support to ensure the team's competitiveness.
