The head of Commerce for CCOO in Córdoba, María José Merino, stated that such initiatives are beneficial for promoting traditional commerce, although she believes the presence of large national and international brands detracts from the original concept.
Without workers, there are no companies, and to provide quality service, professionals with rights and good salaries are needed.
Merino encouraged sector employees to report any abusive practices by some companies that refuse to pay or compensate overtime hours. She reminded workers that those working on Friday night and needing to work on Saturday are entitled to a minimum 12-hour rest period between shifts. Working past 10:00 PM also entitles them to a night shift bonus.
CCOO has warned that it will monitor compliance with the Commerce collective agreement and will report any violations. The union advocates for a sector where people come first, with rights rather than just obligations, and where work-life balance is an achievable reality. They support responsible and sustainable consumption that balances the interests of customers and businesses without harming employees.
