Organized by the Fuente Obejuna City Council with the collaboration of the Provincial Institute for Economic Development (Iprodeco), the fair aims to highlight the region's agri-food tradition and its economic and employment significance.
Economic Development delegate Félix Romero emphasized that the Guadiato Valley is a significant livestock area in Andalusia, with approximately 60,000 extensive Iberian pigs and around 330 farms, representing 10% of the Andalusian territory. Córdoba also has 640,196 sheep, 29% of the Andalusian total, mainly in the Guadiato and Los Pedroches regions.
The fair provides an opportunity to promote local products, foster innovation, boost the economic development of Fuente Obejuna, and encourage sustainability.
Luisa María Rodríguez, the mayor of Fuente Obejuna, noted that the fair, which began in 1984, has evolved into a benchmark for livestock, the agri-food sector, and local businesses.
This year's event will feature around 170 sheep, 90 avian and goat specimens, and 30 beef cattle. Additionally, there will be 40 commercial stands showcasing local products such as Calaveruela cheese, Fuente Obejuna honey, Mellariense sweets and breads, and crafts.
The program includes tastings, children's fun runs, livestock morphology competitions, theoretical-practical sessions on avian and hen reproduction, oil talks, children's workshops, and a livestock auction.
The event will conclude with an agribusiness challenge, a ham and Mellariense cheese cutting exhibition, and the equestrian show ‘Pasión y Duende del Caballo Andaluz’ by Córdoba Ecuestre.
