The course aimed to analyze Andalusia's role in the European integration process since Spain's accession to the then European Communities. The delegate for Youth of the provincial institution, Sara Alguacil, explained the participation in the round table titled ‘The social impact of belonging to the EU: the Erasmus program, the Ambassador Schools, and the European Citizens' Initiative’.
During the forum, the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) was detailed, a tool of participatory democracy that allows citizens to request the European Commission to consider legislative proposals in areas of European Union competence. Requirements for registration, support collection and validation, and the evaluation procedure were explained.
Alguacil highlighted the importance of the ECI as a tool to strengthen democratic participation, foster more active European citizenship, and bring EU institutions closer to society. Examples of initiatives that have driven European political debate were presented.
The participation of Europe Direct Córdoba in this academic activity reaffirms its commitment to disseminating knowledge about the EU and promoting citizen participation, serving as an Ambassador for the European Citizens' Initiative.
