The Guadalquivir Hydrographic Confederation (CHG) held an informational meeting with irrigators from the area of the Siles reservoir to detail the irrigation land regularization procedure, as outlined in the Basin's Hydrological Plan. The meeting covered the current status of the process and pending actions, enabling for the first time the regulated and sustainable use of the reservoir's 6.18 cubic hectometers reserve.
The Organization's president, Gloria María Martín Valcárcel, attended the meeting accompanied by the Government's sub-delegate in Jaén, Manuel Fernández Palomino, and the Provincial Council President, Juan Latorre. The CHG completed the technical phase of analysis, duplication checks, and surface verification in May, a complex process involving cartography review and requests for supplementary documentation.
The report confirms that seven irrigation communities meet the requirements and will be granted an administrative concession, covering a total irrigable area of just over 4,424 hectares. The basin authority is now individually processing each concession, awaiting a Hydrological Planning report.
The CHG emphasized the significant effort by the Water Commission to address a long-standing demand from irrigators in the Sierra de Segura. This process, initiated in 2021, will allow for the regulated and sustainable use of the Jaén reservoir's water, truly valuing the infrastructure.
