The socialist municipal group has voiced concerns about the direction of the Seville City Council, suggesting that the mayor has replicated a prior management model. This criticism follows the appointment of the former comptroller from the Aljarafe municipality as the new head of municipal accounting.
The socialist councilwoman highlighted that this recruitment from Tomares occurs at a sensitive time for municipal finances, as the 2025 fiscal year concluded with a deficit that violates fiscal rules and budgetary stability. According to the councilwoman, this means expenses exceed revenues, and citizens expect transparent and trustworthy governance.
“"What Sevillians expect is maximum transparency, openness, and institutional trust."
The opposition has warned that the integration of individuals from the Tomares circle into the Sevillian council is not an isolated incident but a recurring pattern. In addition to the newly appointed head of accounting, similar moves have been observed in other key positions, raising concerns about future appointments.
The current governance model has been described as "increasingly self-contained," which contrasts with the need to project independence and institutional solvency, especially given the requirement for an 87 million euro adjustment plan due to spending exceeding income.
