Sevilla's municipal government, through its Municipal Buildings delegation, has initiated improvement and conservation works in 49 public schools across the city, with a total investment exceeding 5.6 million euros. It is expected that 40 of these centers will complete their projects before the upcoming academic year.
The Mayor of Sevilla, José Luis Sanz, personally supervised the interventions at CEIP Borbolla, a century-old building located in the Nervión district. This project, which includes a new sports court completed in 2024, brings the total investment in this school to half a million euros.
The primary objective of these works is to permanently resolve the humidity issues affecting the building and improve the quality and health conditions of its facilities. This initiative is part of the Public Schools Improvement Plan launched by the City Council.
The works involve anti-humidity treatment for the vertical walls, installation of new rainwater collection systems on the tiled roofs, and their connection to the existing sewage network. Action is also being taken on the patio drainage systems and sealing of external joints.
Additionally, vertical walls in the administration area showing cracks are being repaired, and painting is being renewed in various parts of the center, both interior and exterior, using silicate and plastic paints as appropriate.
CEIP Borbolla, designed by architect Juan Talavera Heredia and operational since 1923, is listed as a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC - Asset of Cultural Interest). The school currently serves around 450 students and is a significant part of the city's educational and architectural heritage.
This intervention follows the previous renovation of its sports courts, which required an investment of 84,770 euros. The City Council aims to provide a comprehensive solution to the school's humidity problems, improving its water evacuation, sanitation, and humidity protection systems, while also renovating interior spaces.
In total, Sevilla City Council has over 5.6 million euros in ongoing school construction projects, with 9.5 million in the drafting phase, nearly 10 million in completed works, and over 950,000 euros in projects being processed, amounting to more than 25 million euros invested over three years.
