Carlos Bordons Alba, Professor of Systems Engineering and Automation at the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSi) of the University of Seville, has received the National Award for Automation. This award, granted by the Spanish Committee of Automation (CEA), recognizes his "contributions to Model Predictive Control and its application to renewable energy systems and microgrids, as well as his trajectory in research, training of researchers, and technological transfer".
The award is given to members of the scientific community for merits achieved throughout their academic, research, and professional careers. The ceremony took place during the recent National Automation Conference held in Córdoba, and was presented by the president of the CEA, José Manuel Andújar Márquez.
Bordons Alba is a founding member of the Excellence Unit ENGREEN at the University of Seville, a visiting professor at the University of Technology Sydney, and a member of the board of the Technological Corporation of Andalusia (CTA). He served as General Manager of the Research and Industrial Cooperation Association of Andalusia (AICIA) and was part of the management of ETSi. He is a member of the council of the European Union Control Association and a Fellow of the IEEE and AAIA societies. Stanford University included him in its prestigious "World´s Top 2%" ranking.
His research focuses on advanced process control, particularly predictive control and its application to energy systems, including microgrids and green hydrogen. He is a co-author of several books on the subject, notably "Model Predictive Control" and "Model Predictive Control of Microgrids", published by Springer.
The recognition of Carlos Bordons Alba also highlights the scientific and research excellence of the faculty at the ETSI and the University of Seville, reflecting consolidated successful trajectories in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer. This award acknowledges not only Bordons Alba's contributions in areas like advanced control and energy systems but also an academic and professional career linked to knowledge generation, training new generations of engineers and researchers, and applying research results to relevant technological challenges.
