The Ministry of Development, Territorial Structuring, and Housing, via the Public Agency of Ports of Andalusia (APPA), has put out to tender for 1,946,151 euros the works to remodel the wave-breaking barrier system protecting the marina of the Punta Umbría sports port. The project is expected to take eight months to complete once awarded.
The acting Minister of Development, Rocío Díaz, highlighted that this new investment seeks to "continue with the modernization process of fishing facilities and thus improve the conditions for the fishing and sports sectors." She also recalled previous actions at the port, such as the repair of the north wall and the adaptation of its surroundings, as well as fixing roofs affected by previous storm trains.
Since 2019, the Regional Government of Andalusia has allocated over 33 million euros to the seven ports directly owned by the regional administration in the province of Huelva. The current intervention focuses on the wave-breaking barrier, which historically suffers from strong currents, high tides, and wave energy generated by vessel passage.
The work on the wave-breaking barrier is configured in three sections: a 300-meter frontal section, a 48-meter northwest section, and a 12-meter southeast section. Each section consists of 12-meter long modules anchored to 5-ton sinkers. The project involves replacing the existing pontoon modules with others better suited to the actual conditions, minimizing deterioration from external agents, and modifying the anchoring system to use driven metal piles.
Companies interested in carrying out these works have until August 28 to submit their bids through the regional administration's electronic portal, Sirec.
