The blaze started in the highway median's vegetation, generating a smoke plume visible to drivers. Several users reported the incident, which occurred around 4:00 PM, coinciding with a period of heavy traffic.
A crew from the Provincial Firefighters Consortium of Huelva was dispatched to the affected kilometer marker, near San Juan del Puerto, to extinguish the flames. The operation required the closure of the left lane of the carriageway during the firefighting efforts.
Three firefighters operated with two intervention vehicles, a light urban pump and a heavy rural pump. The rapid response by the fire service allowed the fire to be controlled quickly, and traffic returned to normal.
