The initiative, held last Saturday, showcased a remarkable display of effort and collective commitment. Participants symbolically relayed a baton representing the continuity of life through donation, despite the harsh weather conditions that affected much of the route between San Juan del Puerto and the Muelle de las Carabelas.
Although the start was initially scheduled for 07:30 AM, it was delayed by half an hour due to the weather. Rain was present from kilometer one to five, though not intensely. However, conditions worsened significantly between kilometers 28 and 34, in the La Rábida area, where heavy rain combined with strong winds exceeding 50 kilometers per hour, considerably increasing the difficulty of the challenge.
“"I want to thank everyone who was part of this Marathon towards a new world. The involvement of people has been incredible, and that shows that organ donation continues to generate much sensitivity."
Despite the adversities, the challenge was successfully completed, maintaining a spirit of perseverance throughout the day. Family, friends, institutional representatives, neighbors, and transplant coordinators from Hospital Universitario Juan Ramón Jiménez supported this initiative, which transformed sport into a message of hope and life.
The event organizer also expressed gratitude to the San Juan del Puerto City Council for facilitating the activity. This event once again highlighted the importance of organ donation and how a selfless act can change and save lives.
