The Provincial Council of Almería and the City Council of Vera have unveiled a project that will turn the main road of Vera Playa into a Grand Eco Boulevard. The work, funded with 4.4 million euros through the Integrated Action Plan (PAI) of Levante Almeriense and co-financed by EU FEDER Funds and the Council itself, aims to resolve mobility and accessibility issues on the AL-7107 within its urban stretch.
The president of the Provincial Council, José Antonio García Alcaina, and the mayor of Vera, Alfonso García Ramos, highlighted the project's significance, which is part of a total investment of 15 million euros for the Levante Almeriense PAI. A profound urban and social transformation is anticipated, reinforcing Vera's status as an attractive hub.
The new boulevard, which will include a bike lane, will span over three kilometers, from the Buganvillas roundabout to the border with Palomares. The development will prioritize pedestrians and cyclists, featuring traffic lanes in each direction separated by a central median, accessible pedestrian paths, and areas protected by landscaped borders.
To enhance road safety, a new roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Avenida Puerto Rey, and traffic calming measures such as elevated and intelligent signalized pedestrian crossings, along with a completely renovated high-efficiency LED public lighting system, will be implemented.
The project emphasizes a strong environmental commitment through the planting of native Mediterranean plant species with low water consumption. Uniquely, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) will be introduced, including a specific drainage trench in the vicinity of the Salar de los Canos to promote natural rainwater infiltration.
