The Provincial Council of Almería has unveiled five new hybrid vehicles joining the Civil Protection Group's fleet, aimed at strengthening emergency prevention and response efforts throughout the province.

The Provincial Council of Almería presented five new vehicles this morning that have been incorporated into the Civil Protection Group's fleet. President José Antonio García Alcaina and the Deputy of Presidency and Provincial Promotion, Carlos Sánchez, unveiled the details of these 4x4s and a pick-up, accompanied by representatives of the volunteer corps. These vehicles will facilitate the development of emergency prevention and response tasks in the province.
The new equipment includes a high-performance 4x4, a 4x4 pick-up, and three SUVs that will replace vehicles currently in use. All are equipped with rotating lights, acoustic signals, and winches for emergency operations. These hybrid and sustainable vehicles underscore the institution's commitment to efficiency.
President García Alcaina highlighted the importance of incorporating latest-generation vehicles, noting that three of the new ones replace older units and two net-increase the response capacity, joining the Advanced Command Post and the water pump van.
He also emphasized the value of human capital, stating that "cars, no matter how powerful, are nothing without the hands that drive them." He detailed that behind this fleet are 88 people: 3 professionals and 85 volunteers, whom he described as "the true heart of the Civil Protection Group." He recalled their actions during the recent fire, where 17 volunteers and two managers went directly to "ground zero," and mentioned that 379 operations were carried out in 2025.
The Council has also announced the activation of the Emergency Trailer Acquisition Plan, aimed at 29 municipalities in the province with Local Civil Protection Volunteer Groups. With a budget of €464,000 for 2026, this initiative seeks to enhance the operational capacity of the Almería Emergency Center (CEDA) and equip volunteer groups with the necessary material resources for effective emergency response.
Municipalities that apply in due time and meet the requirements can choose from three types of trailers: Flood Trailer (€14,500), Extinction Trailer (€12,000), and Generator Set Trailer (€16,000). This plan complements the vehicle delivery and is part of the Almería 103 Strategy, with a total investment of 17 million euros.
García Alcaina stressed the goal of achieving an "effective and immediate response from minute one of any emergency." Municipalities have one month to submit their applications.
Furthermore, the Council commits to drafting the local emergency plans for all municipalities in the province, ensuring they have this framework to respond to emergencies in the best possible way. This measure complements the plans already completed for the area of influence of the Western Firefighters Consortium.
In summary, three lines of action have been presented: the delivery of five new vehicles for Civil Protection, the activation of the economic assistance plan for the 29 provincial groups, and the drafting of all municipal local emergency plans, all aimed at improving the safety and protection of Almería's residents.
