The fire, which started around 1:00 PM in an area of esparto grass and scrub, generated a smoke column visible from several nearby points. The emergency service 112 Andalucía received nearly thirty calls. The deployed task force, including helicopters, water bombers, Infoca forest firefighters, Níjar Local Police, and Níjar Civil Protection, managed to halt its spread.
The flames were stabilized at 3:50 PM, according to Infoca, after nearly three hours of intervention. Currently, the operation has been scaled down and focuses on control and surveillance efforts. Two groups of Infoca forest firefighters, an Environment technician, and a fire engine continue working in the area to cool the ground and secure the affected perimeter.
The causes of the fire are currently unknown, and an investigation has been opened to clarify its origin. Initial reports indicated that the fire affected about five hectares of low scrubland, with no injuries or material damage to nearby homes or infrastructure reported.
This incident adds to a series of recent fires in the province of Almería. In recent days, fires have occurred in the Port of Almería, the Sierra de Gádor (the province's largest wildfire of the year, affecting around 1,100 hectares), and in the La Juaida area, between Viator and Huércal de Almería. These events, occurring amidst high temperatures and wind, raise concerns as the high-risk season approaches.
