The Provincial Council of Almería continues its efforts to improve sports facilities in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants. On this occasion, the Deputy for Sports, Healthy Living, and Youth, María Luisa Cruz, along with the mayor of Alcolea, Antonio Ocaña, inaugurated the new flooring for the municipal pavilion's multi-sport court. This intervention modernizes a key space for practicing various sports and activities.
The work involved lifting and removing the deteriorated flooring, installing new sports surfacing, and subsequently painting the court. This comprehensive renovation of one of the main covered spaces for sports practice in the municipality, located on Calle Real, concluded with sports exhibitions involving over 50 children.
“"With this action, we are responding to a need in Alcolea and improving a space that allows for the practice of different disciplines throughout the year. The new flooring makes the pavilion a more adequate, comfortable, and functional facility for all residents and athletes who use it."
The project received a contribution of 48,000 euros from the Provincial Council through the Sports Facilities Investment Plan 2024. The deputy highlighted that this plan reflects the institution's commitment to cooperating with municipalities to equalize opportunities across the province by improving sports infrastructure.
This plan, endowed with over 1.8 million euros in its current edition, promotes the construction, renovation, and modernization of sports spaces in municipalities under 20,000 inhabitants, with lines of action for repair, improvement, and the creation of trails. The objective is to ensure access to quality facilities for all residents of Almería.
Additionally, in Alcolea, the Provincial Council of Almería has facilitated the launch of the municipal gym. The Provincial Institution subsidized its construction with 180,000 euros, adapting a municipal warehouse on Calle Cerro de la Cruz. The gym spans over 117.40 square meters of usable area and includes changing rooms, showers, and restrooms.
