The group Adelante Andalucía has expressed its support for the residents of the hamlet of La Fábrica, in the municipality of Loja, who are demanding an immediate response to the problem of sewage discharges. According to those affected, they have been irrigating their crops with contaminated water for seven months without the Andalusian Government offering a solution.
The residents met last Tuesday with representatives of Adelante Andalucía to coordinate a signature collection campaign. The objective is to file a formal complaint that highlights the serious unsanitary situation they have been experiencing since last February.
Olive, carrot, and asparagus crops, typical products of the area, are being irrigated with water from sewage discharges. This situation, according to the complainants, occurs due to the passivity of the Junta de Andalucía, which has led residents to mobilize to demand concrete actions.
“"We have organized because the Junta does not listen to us. We have been irrigating with sewage water for months and the response is silence. That is why we have started collecting signatures to file a forceful complaint that forces immediate action."
The mobilization seeks to highlight the institutional abandonment that, in their opinion, both farm workers and residents of La Fábrica and nearby areas such as Huétor Tájar suffer, through which the Vilano stream, the main affected channel, flows. Residents state that for almost eight months, they have not received an effective response to repair the damage or protect their land and health.
The political group has offered its support and has made available to the residents the necessary legal and organizational resources for the signature collection to have an institutional impact. They have stressed that it is not only a sanitation problem but also a public health and dignity issue.
“"It is not just a sanitation problem: it is a public health and dignity problem. The residents have decided to take a step forward because the Junta has crossed all red lines. We will support their signatures and take their voice to all competent bodies."
In addition to the economic damage to families who depend on these crops, residents warn of the risk of cholera outbreaks and other diseases derived from the use of sewage water in irrigation. They insist on the urgency of acting before the situation leads to more serious health problems and call for citizen solidarity to pressure the Junta de Andalucía.
