In an interview with GranadaDigital, Marco Pérez, the mayor of Los Pueblos de Moclín, provided a detailed overview of the management of this unique municipality. He highlighted ongoing projects and assessed the repair work following the damage caused by heavy rains earlier this year.
“"The truth is that we have a complex municipality, with characteristics different from the rest of the municipalities in the province, but we are very happy with the seven population centers that comprise it. Each resident of each town and each center has its own idiosyncrasy."
The geographical dispersion of Moclín, which includes localities such as Olivares, Puerto Lope, Tiena, Tózar, Limones, Gumiel, and Moclín itself, poses a significant logistical challenge. The mayor noted that this structure demands redoubled efforts for infrastructure maintenance and activity organization, as a municipality of 3,600 inhabitants with three educational centers and multiple sports and cultural facilities spread out requires exceptional coordination.
Regarding the storm's devastation, Pérez expressed concern about the damage to the Gollizno route and the Moclín Castle. Over 800,000 euros in aid have been requested from various administrations, including the Spanish Government, the Junta de Andalucía, and the Provincial Council, for the repair of bridges, walkways, and roads. The situation has impacted the local service and agricultural sectors, making swift action a priority.
Among the most exciting projects, the mayor mentioned the completion of a children's school, which is now ready for inauguration and enrollment. This initiative aims to retain young residents in the municipality, leveraging its proximity to Granada, just 30 minutes away. Additionally, events such as the second edition of the Nazarí and Castilian Festival on May 30 and the only asphalt rally in the province of Granada, scheduled for June 19 and 20, are being prepared to attract visitors and boost the local economy.
