Road repair works on a rural path in Andalucía.

The Junta de Andalucía and the City Council of Écija have invested €563,000 in repairing five rural roads, including the Camino del Borreguero, to facilitate transit for farmers and ranchers after recent storms.

Emergency works on the Camino del Borreguero in Écija were visited by the mayor and the territorial delegate for Agriculture, María Isabel Solís. These actions address the urgent need to restore rural routes affected by winter storms, which are crucial for the local economy and the work of farmers and ranchers.
Écija has approximately 1,000 kilometers of rural roads. The mayor highlighted that subsidies from the Junta de Andalucía and other administrations have enabled repairs long requested by agricultural groups, restoring previously impassable routes. She thanked the Consejería de Agricultura for its swift management.
The territorial delegate, María Isabel Solís, detailed the total investment of €563,000 for the repair of five roads: Écija-Herrera (Camino del Borreguero) for €283,000, Camino de Écija – El Rubio for €88,619.04, Écija-Marinaleda (Camino de Gallape) for €40,281.38, Camino de Écija to Herrera for €48,337.66, and Camino Écija for €24,168.84. Solís emphasized the government's rapid action to assist municipalities and farmers, recognizing the importance of these agricultural routes.
The Territorial Delegation reported that over €750 million has been allocated to farmers and ranchers following the storms, in addition to more than €1.2 billion from the Consejería de Agricultura, Pesca, Agua y Desarrollo Rural for repairs, including roads.
Specifically for the Camino del Borreguero, €282,000 is being invested to rehabilitate approximately 3.5 kilometers. Works include cleaning and reinforcing the road surface, clearing ditches for proper drainage, and constructing four reinforced concrete fords to prevent future damage from precipitation.
The Junta de Andalucía and the City Council of Écija reaffirm their commitment to the primary sector, ensuring safe and accessible infrastructure for the daily operations of the municipality's agricultural and livestock farms. The City Council has also applied for subsidies from the Provincial Council and the Spanish Government to restore these routes.
