The neighborhood association of San Juan, located in the urban center of Baza, has organized the traditional festival in honor of the Virgen del Carmen. The festivities will take place from Monday July 13 to Thursday July 16, coinciding with the patron saint's day.
The program, open to the entire city and visitors, includes a diverse range of activities combining music, gastronomy, community gatherings, and religious ceremonies, preserving the area's popular tradition. The events are designed for all ages and have a distinct local flavor.
On Monday July 13, the festivities will kick off at 7:00 PM with a neighborhood get-together and snack in Plaza de la Merced, where residents will contribute desserts and the association will provide drinks. From 8:00 PM onwards, Dj GAXX will provide entertainment.
On Tuesday July 14, at 6:00 PM, a brisca card game championship will be held at the association's headquarters on Razalof street. In the evening, at 9:00 PM, the Chari López Castañuelas School will perform, followed by a festival dance with the duo Ángel Lozano and Jenyfer Pasca at 10:00 PM.
Wednesday July 15 will be marked by religious preparations. At 8:00 AM, the altar for the Virgen del Carmen will be set up next to the wooden balconies, and from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, a floral offering will take place. At 8:30 PM, a field mass will be celebrated by the parish priest, D. Pablo, accompanied by the Coro Rociero del Centro de Participación Activa. The night will conclude with a grand festival featuring the group “Leben” at 10:30 PM, followed by the traditional cakes with chocolate and an evening vigil before the virgin.
Finally, on Thursday July 16, the feast day of the Virgen del Carmen, a mass will be held at the San Juan church at 8:30 PM. After the mass, residents will carry out the traditional procession of the Virgin through the neighborhood streets.
