The 11th edition of La Isla Ciudad Flamenca is at a significant point after receiving the Gold Medal from the prestigious Lo Ferro International Flamenco Singing Festival. This award recognizes the decades-long work of the San Fernando City Council and the historic Venta de Vargas in promoting flamenco.
The festival organization has expressed its pride in these accolades, which underscore the vibrant state of flamenco in the city. 'La Isla Ciudad Flamenca' aims to have contributed to this dissemination, transforming the city's streets and spaces into a grand stage for forty-two days.
This week's program includes various performances. On Tuesday, July 28, El Mawi de Cádiz will perform at Alameda Moreno de Guerra. On Wednesday, July 29, the photographic exhibition "Recordando a El Chato de La Isla" (Remembering El Chato de La Isla) will open at the Camarón de La Isla Interpretation Center, paying homage to this key figure of island flamenco on the centenary of his birth.
That same night, the Venta de Vargas will host the Candlelight format with singer Jesús de Lucas and guitarist Víctor Rosa, creating an intimate atmosphere. On Thursday, July 30, La Milonga terrace will feature 'Rumbaleando'.
The weekend will feature dance recitals by Charo Pedraja and Jesuli Carrillo at Venta de Vargas. On Sunday, August 2, Jesús Castilla will offer a singing recital from the Balcón de la Gran Vía, reviving the tradition of bringing flamenco to the streets of Plaza del Rey.
