The Camping El Torcal, located at the foot of the most visited natural park in the region, had been closed for almost a decade. The site had come to house over 40 families living permanently in its plots, accumulated debts, and suffered a broken enclosure, leading to complaints demanding municipal intervention.
The reopening has been driven by the Local Government Board's approval on July 6th of the campsite's use and exploitation concession. This paves the way for a Sevillian company, Inversiones Sevilla Puerto S.L., to rebuild it from scratch.
The campsite's deterioration originated from the expiration of a 25-year administrative concession, awarded in 2000, without a clear successor. The situation worsened with the pandemic, leading to irregular occupation by families without resources.
The main legal obstacle was a registry error: the campsite's plot was never correctly segregated from the adjacent land, mistakenly including the source of the river de la Villa. This circumstance prevented any solid legal action until the ownership of each square meter was resolved.
Added to this problem was the irregular occupation, which required judicial eviction procedures before the campsite could be put out for concession.
Inversiones Sevilla Puerto S.L., already the manager of the Torcal visitor center, presented a project to take over the campsite. The proposal includes the reconstruction and remodeling of 100% of the plot in one go, highlighting its financial solidity.
