The Diversity Week program, running until Friday, May 24, began last Saturday with a charity golf tournament. This event, organized in collaboration with the Antequera Golf Club, saw significant participation and served as a prelude to the official schedule, concluding with a social gathering among attendees.
Activities will continue on Wednesday, May 22, with a talk titled “More Autonomy and Rights for Your Child with a Disability,” to be held in the municipal museum's audiovisual room. This session, developed in collaboration with the Cristina Marina Foundation, will address families' concerns about the future of their children with disabilities when their direct caregivers are no longer able to assist them.
On Thursday, May 23, the Don Pedro Rojas Social Services Center will host a presentation on daily life, autonomy, and access to employment. An occupational therapist and a hearing and language specialist will present the progress of a transition-to-adult-life program promoted by CASIAC. This program teaches practical skills such as household management, public transport use, and money handling, thanks to practical training in a residence provided by the City Council.
The week will conclude on Friday, May 24, with an awareness activity on architectural barriers. Students from various city high schools will participate in a tour of Antequera, starting from Plaza de Castilla, to assess urban accessibility. Afterward, they will gather at the City Council for a final evaluation and a tribute to a key figure in the local associative movement, recognized for their work in favor of people with disabilities and their involvement in volunteering for decades.
