Representatives from the Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training visited the Antequera City Council on April 22 to analyze the local educational situation. During the meeting, current enrollment processes and the condition of educational infrastructure following recent weather incidents were discussed.
The visit highlighted the close collaboration between the regional administration and the local council. It was emphasized that educational progress in the municipality is achieved through joint work between the Territorial Delegation of Málaga and the Antequera City Council, a synergy considered essential for the quality of the educational system and the future of students.
Regarding administrative management, enrollment calendars were reviewed. Currently, the educational community is in the appeals period after the publication of provisional lists for the second cycle of early childhood education, primary, secondary, and baccalaureate. Furthermore, the deadline for enrollment in the zero to three-year cycle remains open until May 6.
A central point of the meeting was the monitoring of necessary repair works following damage caused by storms last February. In Antequera, issues have been identified in three educational centers, and the Andalusian Public Education Agency is currently drafting projects to rectify these defects.
At the regional level, it was reported that a total of 639 repair actions are underway across Andalusia due to the storms. Technical deployment has intensified over the past month to evaluate each case and proceed with urgent interventions.
Concerning IES Los Colegiales, the Ministry awaits a detailed technical report. Following an initial investment of 50,000 euros made during Holy Week for provisional repairs, it must be determined whether structural rehabilitation of the center is viable or if a complete replacement will be pursued. The Antequera City Council has already offered land for the possible construction of a new institute, and the final decision will depend on the geotechnical and pathology study being carried out by the Public Agency's technicians.
