The political group has described the state of the hospital, which serves over 250,000 residents in the Campo de Gibraltar area, as "concerning." According to their statements, the Emergency department is "at its limit," the X-ray service is operating "at half capacity," and waiting times for Rehabilitation "impact patients' quality of life."
The party claims to have received "direct and worrying information" regarding the hospital's operational conditions, prompting them to publicize the situation. They emphasize that the Emergency service is working under pressure that far exceeds its current capabilities, with insufficient waiting room space and the need to set up additional areas, leading to overcrowding that affects patient dignity.
Furthermore, the X-ray service is reported to have a prolonged technical issue, with only one of the two X-ray rooms functioning normally for over a month. This breakdown, which should have been urgently resolved, is affecting the care of hundreds of patients weekly. Delays in the Rehabilitation service are also a point of complaint, with waiting times directly impacting the recovery and quality of life of residents in the Campo de Gibraltar.
“"We urge the Junta de Andalucía to act with the same urgency as its healthcare professionals: by expanding facilities, resolving breakdowns, and reducing waiting lists."
In response to this situation, the local party calls on responsible administrations to adopt concrete measures with defined deadlines, such as the expansion and modernization of Emergency facilities, the immediate repair of X-ray equipment, and a structural solution for rehabilitation waiting lists.
For its part, the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) has stated that the Punta de Europa University Hospital has six X-ray machines in operation: two in Emergency, two in Radiology, and two portable units for admitted patients, thus refuting claims of a lack of resources in this service.
