Last Saturday, San Roque was adorned for its festivities, accompanying its patron saint on the first of two days of pilgrimage. Following a morning prayer at the hermitage dedicated to the saint, the procession, comprising the patron's float and numerous pilgrims on foot, set off towards the recreational area of Pinar del Rey.
This year's pilgrimage stood out for its remarkable participation, surpassing the record for registered riders and seeing a significant increase in the number of floats. These floats, which bring together families and groups of friends, not only came from San Roque but also included participants from neighboring towns such as Algeciras, La Línea, and Los Barrios, thereby enriching the celebration.
The journey led the pilgrims through areas like El Albarracín and the La Alcaidesa estate, before reaching Pinar del Rey, where the patron saint spent the night. The entire route was characterized by a family-friendly and festive atmosphere, supported by extensive security measures to ensure the well-being of all participants.
Activities continued on Sunday at Pinar del Rey, commencing at noon with a pilgrims' mass in honor of the patron. In addition to the religious service, the day featured performances by dance groups and traditional activities such as ribbon races on horseback, enlivening the morning before lunch. In the afternoon, the pilgrims began their return journey, taking a shortcut through the Salomón estate from 5:30 PM.
