The Municipal Health Department in La Línea de la Concepción has reinforced prevention measures against the West Nile Virus during August, a month of high temperatures, and reminds citizens of the importance of self-protection.

The municipal Health delegation, led by deputy mayor Zuleica Molina, has intensified prevention against the West Nile Virus in anticipation of high August temperatures. Citizens are urged to enhance self-protection measures and collaborate in eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites in their homes.
High temperatures favor the mosquito's biological cycle, making prevention crucial. The City Council maintains the Municipal Plan for Vector Surveillance and Control (PMVCV) 2026, with monitoring efforts at key control points within the municipality. Recent inspections have not detected larval activity in sampling sites or drains, although preventive surveillance is advised to continue.
It is emphasized that the absence of larvae does not negate the need for ongoing prevention and citizen cooperation to prevent new breeding grounds. Municipal technical sources highlight the importance of maintaining surveillance throughout the summer, especially during periods of intense heat, to detect and act quickly on any incidents.
To reduce the risk of mosquito proliferation, it is recommended to install and maintain mosquito nets, use authorized repellents, wear light-colored clothing that covers most of the skin, and regularly check patios and gardens for standing water in containers like pots or buckets. Proper treatment of swimming pools and other water deposits, and removal of water-collecting debris, are also reminded.
It is recalled that mosquitoes are most active at dawn and dusk, times when reinforcing individual protection measures is advisable. The City Council of La Línea de la Concepción reaffirms its commitment to public health through the PMVCV 2026, stressing that West Nile Virus prevention is a shared responsibility.
