The Popular Party (PP) of Los Barrios has registered a motion for the April plenary session, seeking the reopening of the Guardia Civil barracks in Palmones and the declaration of the Campo de Gibraltar region as a Zone of Special Singularity.

This initiative by the PP follows the repeated refusal by the Ministry of Interior to reopen the Palmones facilities, which argues that it would not lead to a real improvement in service effectiveness. However, the popular party, along with local residents, believes this installation is strategic for combating crime in the river area.

"We regret that the Ministry of Interior's response to questions raised in the Congress of Deputies regarding the reopening of the Palmones barracks has once again been negative. We do not understand why they respond that it would not bring real improvements in service efficiency, when in our opinion and that of the residents of Palmones, it is a unique and strategic installation for Palmones and for the region in the fight against criminal activities in the river."

Antonio Dávila · Secretary General of the PP of Los Barrios
Antonio Dávila, secretary general of the PP, emphasized that his party will continue to support the demands of Palmones residents, recalling previous actions in 2020 and in earlier plenary sessions. Additionally, the PP will again request the declaration of the province of Cádiz, and specifically the Campo de Gibraltar, as a Zone of Special Singularity.
Furthermore, the popular party positively assesses the initiation of procedures by the Ministry of Defense to recognize military careers as a high-risk profession. Nevertheless, they express distrust regarding the commitment not to exclude military personnel who joined before January 1, 2011.
Similarly, the PP applauds the Ministry of Interior's decision to include the Guardia Civil alongside the National Police in negotiations for early retirement, although they remain skeptical about the proposed timeline. They anticipate unanimous support from the Municipal Corporation to advance these necessary measures, which would enhance the well-being and security of Los Barrios residents.
