This emblematic celebration in the Campo de Gibraltar, which annually gathers around 10,000 people, combines devotion, community, and nature in a unique setting. The pilgrimage, with over half a century of history, is the oldest in the region and keeps deeply rooted traditions alive.
The journey will begin on Saturday, April 25 at 9:30 AM from the Church of San Isidro, following the traditional departure prayer and the blessing of banners and wheat stalks. During the route, pilgrims will recite the Angelus at 12:00 PM and make a stop near Venta “El Frenazo”, resuming the path at 3:00 PM until reaching the recreational area of La Montera del Torero.
The pilgrimage atmosphere will be marked by the presence of decorated carts, horse riders, and groups of friends accompanying the saint on a day of fellowship. On Sunday, April 26, the image of San Isidro will return from the recreational area at 4:00 PM, with its arrival in Los Barrios expected around 8:30 PM.
The romería dates back to 1964, initiated by a priest who revived the Brotherhood of San Isidro Labrador, founded in 1849. Since then, the festivity has solidified traditions such as the ringing of bells at the start of the journey, the singing of the Angelus by the choir, and the characteristic scent of rosemary accompanying the departure.
