Juan Franco, mayor of La Línea de la Concepción, has highlighted the need to implement an Accompanying Measures Plan once the elimination of restrictions at the border crossing with Gibraltar becomes a reality. The primary goal of this plan would be to advance on crucial issues such as the situation of pensioners, fishermen, road infrastructure, and the environment, among other areas.
The mayor stated his confidence that this is the opportune moment for the National Government, the Regional Government of Andalusia, supramunicipal bodies like the Provincial Council or the Mancomunidad, and the La Línea de la Concepción City Council itself, to address the raised demands.
Franco expressed his anticipation regarding the developments following July 15, the date when transit between the two territories will be unrestricted. He hopes this measure will foster greater unity between the two communities in social, cultural, sporting, and friendship aspects, as well as drive significant economic progress.
Furthermore, he is confident that the Shared Prosperity space, mentioned on various occasions by the National Government, will finally materialize. He views the existence of this agreement positively, as its absence would have been a severe blow to the residents of the area.
