The neighborhood entity highlights that one of the components experiencing a significant rise is the regional fee, which has gone from 3.06 euros in 2025 to 3.85 euros in 2026, representing a 25% increase.
Fapacsa doubts the economic situation of the mixed company Emalgesa and its management model, despite the Algeciras City Council justifying the tariff increase by the need to "guarantee the sustainability of the service."
The neighborhood federation attributes that, despite the implemented increases, the company has reportedly accumulated over three million euros in deficit in the last three years, with an annual debt from non-payments exceeding 700,000 euros.
Fapacsa believes there is an imbalance in the relationship between the private company and the mixed society, noting that Aqualia obtains profits without assuming losses. The organization indicates that the company receives 4% of the company's revenue and also acts as a financial entity for the City Council through interest-bearing loans.
The federation agrees with the "unsustainable" assessment made by Emalgesa councilor Álvaro Márquez and requests the suspension of the water tariff increase. They also propose the possibility of the service management being taken over by other public administrations, such as the Junta de Andalucía or the State.
