The police operations have resulted in the arrest of five individuals allegedly linked to these networks. The detainees, located in Ceuta and La Línea de la Concepción (Cádiz), face charges of criminal organization and aiding irregular immigration. One of the detainees has been sent to provisional prison.
Investigations revealed a sophisticated operation for the illegal transfer of people, exploiting the maritime route between the autonomous city and the Cadiz coast to evade border controls.
The first dismantled network operated between Ceuta and La Línea de la Concepción, using speedboats to transport individuals in irregular situations. Investigations began after the discovery of a stranded vessel in Ceuta, showing damage consistent with high-speed navigation.
Intermediaries for this organization recruited migrants, often after attempts to scale border fences, offering them passage to the mainland for approximately 9,000 euros. Migrants were temporarily housed and discreetly transported to the meeting point with the boat.
The crossings were preferably carried out at night, using experienced pilots skilled in high-speed navigation and evasive maneuvers to bypass maritime controls in the Strait of Gibraltar. Adverse weather conditions were often exploited to hinder surveillance.
In a parallel second operation, an individual's involvement in a maritime crossing on August 14 was clarified, where seven people were transferred in a small boat lacking safety measures. The occupants were intercepted on El Burgo beach, in La Línea de la Concepción, after a journey of about five hours and 40 kilometers.
According to witness accounts, the organizer of this last trip charged 8,000 euros per person, generating an estimated profit of 56,000 euros for a single journey. Passengers were crammed into a five-meter boat, lacking life vests or rescue equipment.
Police are investigating potential aggravating circumstances, such as profit motive and the victims' extreme vulnerability, in addition to the danger to their lives and physical integrity. The detainees remain at the disposal of the judicial authorities as investigations continue to identify other potential collaborators.
