The so-called Operation Alibaba has uncovered a scheme that recruited vulnerable individuals and forced them to work grueling shifts from Monday to Sunday. According to investigators, the leaders used the 'false self-employed' status to evade labor costs and legal responsibilities, while maintaining strict personal control over the workers.
The investigation began in August 2025 following a labor inspection at a warehouse in Algeciras, where workers without legal authorization were found. The network operated through three coordinated companies managing a fleet of about twenty vans, distributing activities across Algeciras, La Línea de la Concepción, and Los Barrios.
During the final phase of the operation, officers conducted home searches and workplace inspections, seizing extensive documentation. In addition to the ten arrests, the court has ordered provisional prison for the two main leaders of the plot, who are accused of human trafficking and crimes against workers' rights.
