The crossing, which connects Tarifa with the Moroccan coast, took place on Monday, May 11, under optimal sea conditions, following a week of adverse weather that had prevented such expeditions.
The swimmers, aged between 32 and 47, tackled the 15.1-kilometer challenge separating Tarifa from Punta Cires (Morocco) without the aid of wetsuits, significantly increasing the physical demands of the feat.
Their recorded time of 3 hours and 42 minutes ranks among the fastest in recent weeks for the Strait. The average water temperature during the swim was 16.7 degrees Celsius.
The water conditions, combined with the currents and heavy maritime traffic typical of the area, highlight the magnitude of this challenge, considered one of the most demanding in open water swimming.
