The announcement was made in Algeciras during a meeting with neighborhood associations, where it was detailed that the 8.5 million euro investment will fund the construction of a health center in the former Huerta de Siles. According to authorities, this project will provide more comprehensive healthcare to the local neighborhoods.
The future health center will span over 2,600 square meters, featuring 19 consultation rooms (including four for pediatrics), an emergency room, diagnostic areas, dentistry, X-ray facilities, and minor surgery. It is expected to serve approximately 13,000 users and employ around 60 healthcare professionals, significantly expanding current resources.
This project has faced several delays. The initial contract was awarded in November 2023, but the assigned company withdrew, forcing the Junta de Andalucía to restart the process in September 2024. The current goal is for construction to begin before the end of the year, provided administrative deadlines are met.
“"The Executive cannot continue to look the other way."
The announcement coincides with the start of the electoral campaign in the region, where healthcare and infrastructure are key topics in the political debate. During the event, the national healthcare situation was also addressed, criticizing the lack of dialogue with healthcare professionals and calling for urgent negotiations to resolve the doctors' strike.
