The municipality of Roquetas de Mar will receive 2.5 million euros from European Next Generation funds to modernize its tourism sector.

The socialist senator for Almería, Antonio Martínez, has highlighted the allocation of 2.5 million euros by the Spanish Government to Roquetas de Mar. These funds, from European Next Generation programs and the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, aim to boost a new tourism model in the municipality, focused on sustainability, innovation, and the improvement of public spaces.
During a visit to the town, accompanied by socialist councilor Rafael Torres, Martínez emphasized how these European investments, promoted by the government of Pedro Sánchez, are generating a transformative impact nationally, provincially, and locally. The investment is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destinations, aimed at modernizing one of the municipality's economic pillars and enhancing the visitor experience.
The plan includes various actions, such as the acquisition of an electric tourist bus with an investment close to 500,000 euros. Intelligent systems for managing beach parking, the installation of recycling bins and waste points, circular economy awareness campaigns, accessibility improvements, and the creation of new shaded areas, both terrestrial and aquatic, will also be implemented. Furthermore, technical assistance for the plan's development is included.
Martínez stressed that these actions are part of a comprehensive strategy to consolidate Roquetas de Mar as a more sustainable, accessible, innovative, and competitive tourist destination. He added that the Ministry of Industry and Tourism has allocated over 36 million euros to tourism investment projects in the province of Almería, financed by Next Generation funds.
For his part, councilor Rafael Torres criticized the attitude of the PP's governing team at the Roquetas de Mar City Council, led by Gabriel Amat, calling it "hypocritical" for "silencing" the European funding for these initiatives. Torres highlighted that the "greatest investment effort in the history of Roquetas" is possible thanks to these funds, mentioning projects like the hospital, the fairground, and the future urban bus, and accused Amat's party of attempting to boycott them in Brussels.
