The procession of the patron saint and perpetual mayor of Algeciras, the Virgen de la Palma, traversed the city center this Friday, drawing numerous residents and devotees. The procession began at 8:00 PM from the parish of Nuestra Señora de la Palma, in Plaza Alta.
Upon leaving the church, the salt carpets laid out in Plaza Alta, decorated with various motifs to welcome the image, were particularly noteworthy. The Virgin wore a new mantle, a piece crafted from the bullfighting suit of Miguel Mateo Miguelín, with which he took his alternative in 1958.
The route included streets such as Alfonso XI, Alférez Medina, Capitán Ontañón, María Cristina park, Blas Infante, Sevilla, San Antonio, before returning to Plaza Alta around midnight.
Throughout the parade, the people of Algeciras accompanied the patron saint with songs and expressions of devotion, on a day marked by tradition and music.
