This resource, located in the Pescadores neighborhood, aims to address a fundamental hygiene need for those without a home who are not regular users of the center. The initiative is a result of the collaboration between the Algeciras City Council and the Humanos con Recursos organization.
“"This is a highly demanded resource that is now operational to meet the bathing and personal hygiene needs of people experiencing homelessness."
The established schedule for this service is from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, from Tuesday to Friday, allowing 21 people to be attended daily, distributed in seven shifts of three users each. Access will be exclusively by prior appointment, which can be made the previous afternoon at the center itself (from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM), at collaborating entities, or through Social Affairs.
The Padre Andrés Avelino Open Doors Center currently has 25 accommodation places, plus an emergency place activated by the Municipal Delegation for Equality and Social Welfare when needed. Beyond accommodation, the center offers support, guidance, and various pathways for the social inclusion of its users.
The center honors the memory of Father Avelino, who passed away in 2018. He served as parish priest of San Pedro and San Francisco Javier for decades and was known for his commitment to the most disadvantaged, especially immigrants arriving without resources in the Campo de Gibraltar. In 2008, the City Council awarded him the Medal of La Palma in recognition of his selfless dedication and tireless humanitarian work.
