Algeciras is preparing to commemorate its Day from September 3rd to 5th with an extensive program of activities aimed at highlighting its history and municipal identity.

The city of Algeciras has designed a special program to celebrate its Day, taking place from September 3rd to 5th. The events aim to showcase municipal history and independence through various cultural, gastronomic, and leisure proposals distributed across different areas of the town.
The festivities coincide with the days leading up to the anniversary of Algeciras' independence from San Roque, a historical milestone that occurred on September 6th, 1755. The goal is for the city's streets and squares to become vibrant stages of its past.
The program will kick off on Thursday, September 3rd, with the Algecireña Tapas Days, an initiative organized by HOSTEAL. This gastronomic event will run until Saturday the 5th, inviting numerous local hospitality establishments to showcase their culinary creations and allow attendees to explore the region's food offerings.
On Friday, September 4th, Emilio Castelar street will host a musical performance by Los Colgaos, starting at 7:00 PM, adding rhythm to the celebration.
Saturday, September 5th, will concentrate the majority of the activities. Starting at 11:00 AM, the Plaza Alta will host an Artisan Market organized by Alquimia Pingüina, featuring stalls, workshops, activities, and performances.
Later, at 12:00 PM, the official chronicler of Algeciras, Carlos Gómez de Avellaneda, will give a talk dedicated to the city's history, delving into its legacy.
Music will continue throughout the day. At 8:00 PM, violinist Carmen Romero will perform in the Plaza Alta, while David Cordobés will take the stage on Emilio Castelar street at 9:00 PM.
Concurrently, Avenida Capitán Ontañón will become a meeting point for collectors. Stalls will be available from 11:00 AM, and the day will conclude at 10:00 PM with a performance by Andrés Roldán.
The City Council has emphasized that this program aims to merge historical commemoration with leisure proposals attractive to both residents and visitors. The initiative is supported by local entities such as ACTYMA, HOSTEAL, Alquimia Pingüina, and the Asociación Paseo del Coleccionista, along with backing from the Mancomunidad de Municipios del Campo de Gibraltar.
Over these three days, Algeciras will transform its most emblematic spaces into stages for culture, gastronomy, and leisure, offering an experience designed for family enjoyment and a deeper understanding of local history.
