The Plaza de San Isidro in Algeciras will host the 9th edition of the Campo de Gibraltar Flamenco Festival next Friday, August 21st, starting at 10:00 PM. This well-established event will once again bring together prominent exponents of singing, guitar playing, and dancing from the region in an evening dedicated to promoting and disseminating flamenco.
The president of the Mancomunidad de Municipios del Campo de Gibraltar, Susana Pérez Custodio, presented the new edition alongside the director of the Instituto de Estudios Campogibraltareños (IECG), Eduardo Briones, and the president of Section V of the IECG, José Luis Moreno. Also participating were Enrique Morales, president of the Provincial Federation of Flamenco Clubs of Cádiz, and representatives from two of the organizing flamenco clubs.
Pérez Custodio highlighted that the Campo de Gibraltar Flamenco Festival is one of the most representative cultural initiatives of the region, a result of the coordinated work developed over years by flamenco clubs, the IECG, and the Mancomunidad to preserve, disseminate, and promote flamenco as a key identity of the Campo de Gibraltar. She emphasized that this ninth edition marks a new step in a cultural project that has become a benchmark for both fans and artists of the region, maintaining the commitment to promoting local talent and spreading a cultural heritage deeply rooted in the territory.
The efforts of the IECG and the flamenco clubs throughout the year were valued, which have enabled the successful celebration of a new edition of the Mayo Flamenco and its culmination with this festival, conceived as a meeting space for artists, clubs, and fans. Gratitude was expressed for the collaboration of the Algeciras City Council, which has been decisive in the city once again hosting this important cultural event, and for the support of the Provincial Council of Cádiz and the IECG.
Eduardo Briones recalled the specific importance of Section V, dedicated to flamenco, within the Institute, before yielding the floor to its president, José Luis Moreno, who presented the poster for this ninth edition. Moreno highlighted the quality and diversity of a lineup that brings together artists from different generations and backgrounds.
The program will feature singing by Manuela Montoya «La Negra», accompanied by guitarist Manuel Peralta from San Roque, who will also accompany Alonso Núñez «El Purili» from La Línea. The performance will conclude with a dance by José Santiago «El Lías», with singing by José «El Tarasco» and Manuel Moneo, and guitar by Fran de Algeciras. The ensemble will be completed by the clapping and rhythm of «El Chiri», Nono Chico, and «El Moreno».
José Luis Moreno stressed the excellent creative moment flamenco is experiencing in the region thanks to the constant work of clubs, artists, and institutions, and defended the need to continue promoting initiatives that preserve this cultural legacy and bring it closer to new generations of fans. Enrique Morales expressed satisfaction with the work of the seven flamenco clubs in the Campo de Gibraltar, defining the region as «the place where flamenco is best sung and danced in the province». Carlos Vargas, representing the Asociación del Cante Grande de Algeciras, thanked the regional administration for its support to flamenco.
The 9th edition of the Campo de Gibraltar Flamenco Festival is supported by the Provincial Council of Cádiz, the Algeciras City Council, the Mancomunidad de Municipios del Campo de Gibraltar, and the Instituto de Estudios Campogibraltareños (IECG).
