Algeciras will host the eleventh edition of the Sustainable Development Meeting, an event organized by the Algeciras Technological Campus Foundation (FCTA) and the University of Cadiz (UCA). The event, taking place on Thursday, June 4th, at the I+D+i Building of the Algeciras Technology Campus, will focus on Sustainable Development Goal number 13: 'Climate Action'.
The meeting, open to the general public, aims to foster reflection on the current status of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations (UN) and the 2030 Agenda. It will showcase ongoing projects and research promoting sustainable development both locally and globally, culminating in an award for the best oral presentation on combating climate change.
As a new feature, the FCTA has launched the photography contest Mira Sostenible #fotografiandODS13, which seeks to visualize the social, environmental, and economic challenges of sustainable development through imagery. The best photographs will be awarded during the closing ceremony.
Registration for the event is free and open until June 1st. The organization is supported by the Bahía de Algeciras Port Authority (APBA) and funded by the Regional Ministry of University, Research and Innovation of the Regional Government of Andalusia.
The program will begin at 9:30 AM with attendee registration and the institutional inauguration at 10:00 AM. The keynote speech will be delivered by Mercedes Martín, a meteorologist and oceanographer specializing in climate change and sustainability, and an alumna of the UCA.
