Alberto Carlos Bermúdez, a retired teacher, writer, and beloved resident of Algeciras, has passed away. He significantly contributed to the city's educational, social, and literary spheres throughout his life.
Born in Tetuán in 1948, his childhood in northern Morocco shaped his intellectual outlook. As a Social Sciences teacher, he dedicated his career to education with a humanist approach and close connection to his students.
After retiring, Bermúdez remained highly active. He served as president of the neighborhood association El Chinarral, promoting citizen participation and improvements in the San García area.
His literary work included titles such as Annual, 1921. Un desastre olvidado and José, el Tarifeño, alongside more anecdotal and humorous pieces. His book Pirulo I: El Bravo was presented in the presence of Mayor José Ignacio Landaluce.
His commitment extended to the Casa de Ceuta de Algeciras and the Socialist Party of Algeciras. He was known for his advocacy for animals and his involvement in cultural and sports initiatives, including the founding of the Club Deportivo Playas de San García.
He is survived by his wife, Emilia, also a teacher, and their three children, all dedicated to education. The wake is being held at the Los Pinos funeral home.
