The Provincial Water Company of Córdoba S.A. (Emproacsa) has announced the opening of the public tender process for the execution of works to renew the supply and sanitation networks on Calle Horno in Puente Genil. The project has a budget of €540,335, with the deadline for submitting offers remaining open until October 28, 2026.
The tender has been published on the provincial institution's contracting platform. The president of the Provincial Council and head of Emproacsa, Salvador Fuentes, met with the mayor of Puente Genil, Sergio Velasco, to finalize the terms of the action. Fuentes emphasized the Council's commitment to modernizing the integral water cycle infrastructure in the municipalities.
Fuentes stressed the challenge of ensuring not a single liter of drinking water is lost due to obsolete networks, noting that infrastructure like that on Calle Horno had not undergone significant intervention for decades, increasing the risk of hidden leaks and frequent breakdowns. This project aims to provide Puente Genil with a watertight, modern, and efficient hydraulic network.
The mayor of Puente Genil, Sergio Velasco, positively assessed the announcement, calling it a long-demanded and necessary action due to the advanced state of deterioration of the old infrastructure. He highlighted that the project will modernize basic services, improve hydraulic network efficiency, and redevelop the street, enhancing the quality of life and well-being of local residents.
Velasco also thanked the sensitivity, commitment, and close collaboration of the Provincial Council of Córdoba and the president of Emproacsa, Salvador Fuentes, whose involvement was crucial in making this important intervention possible, addressing a real need for Puente Genil.
The action aims to definitively resolve structural deficiencies in the area's underground pipelines, following emergency works carried out last August at the intersection of Calle Horno and Calle Veracruz due to a major breakdown.
The supply and sanitation networks on this street suffer from breaks and fissures due to their age, causing leaks. The comprehensive intervention includes the integral renewal of both networks in the section of the street between Calle Linares and Calle Santa Catalina.
The sanitation network, currently a deteriorated factory sewer, will be replaced by a DN-630 mm SN-8 corrugated PVC pipe, ensuring optimal watertightness and resistance. The supply network, with low-quality polyethylene pipes prone to recurrent failures, will be renewed with P100 High-Density Polyethylene pipes, DN-90 mm and DN-140 mm, PN16. Additionally, shut-off valves will be renewed and expanded to improve sectorization and network control.
The intervention will be completed with the integral renewal of the street's paving. The roadway will feature granite cobblestones and hot-rolled asphalt, while the sidewalks will be finished with veined limestone and granite curbs, improving road safety and pedestrian accessibility.
