The local government has urged the company, responsible for renovating and installing luminaires in the town, to reinforce public lighting along the main avenue of La Matallana. The aim is to eliminate the variations in light intensity that have caused dissatisfaction among residents and local businesses.
Mayor Sergio Velasco explained that while there is general satisfaction with the new LED technology installed in other areas, the outcome in La Matallana has not met expectations. As a solution, it is proposed to supplement the existing "fernandinas" streetlights by installing approximately 16 bracket-mounted lamps on building facades.
This measure will initially be implemented as a pilot test on a section of the main commercial street. If the light homogeneity improves satisfactorily, it will be extended to the rest of the avenue. The mayor assured that measures are being taken to correct the issue and sent a message of reassurance to the affected businesses.
The public lighting renovation works, which began in April, affect approximately 20% of the municipality's light points, replacing obsolete luminaires with LED technology at 1,047 points and renewing nearly twenty control panels. The project, awarded for over one million euros, has a nine-month execution period and is funded by the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE) through a repayable grant.
The initiative aims to enhance energy efficiency, reduce electricity consumption, and promote the municipality's sustainability by incorporating state-of-the-art LED technology and advanced control systems.
