The Hospital de Montilla has inaugurated a significant expansion comprising two new adjoining buildings, adding 2,000 square meters. These new facilities will house outpatient consultations, which have been operational since May, as well as new laboratories and a rest area for healthcare personnel. The total investment surpassed 5.5 million euros, partly funded by European React-Feder funds and internal funds for equipment.
The Minister of Presidency, Health, and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, along with the mayor of Montilla, Rafael Llamas, emphasized that this modernization was essential to adapt the hospital to current and future healthcare needs. The expansion also led to the incorporation of 25 new professionals to the staff to manage the new services.
The Hospital de Montilla, which opened in 2004, serves a population of 62,234 inhabitants from several municipalities in the region. Technological modernization and the enhancement of diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities were crucial for the quality and safety of patient care.
One of the new buildings features 16 consultation rooms and six examination rooms for specialties including Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Digestive Diseases, Urology, Ophthalmology, Traumatology, and Dermatology. The second building houses new Laboratory and Extraction facilities on its ground floor, and on the upper floor, a rest area for staff with 15 rooms and two terraces.
The expansion necessitated the recruitment of new specialized personnel, including specialists in Ophthalmology and Internal Medicine, nurses, auxiliary nursing care technicians, and specialist technicians in Laboratory, Pathological Anatomy, and Diagnostic Imaging, as well as administrative and porter staff.
Antonio Sanz also highlighted the investment in technological equipment, such as the renovation of surgical microscopes and ophthalmic lasers, and the acquisition of new diagnostic equipment for digestive and pneumological services, with a total approximate investment of 820,000 euros for these upgrades.
The minister described the Hospital de Montilla as a "fully capable" regional center that now increases its outpatient, surgical, emergency, diagnostic, and hospitalization capacity thanks to these works and staff increases, thereby improving care for the region's residents.
