The organizers of the event, which is designated as a National Tourist Interest Festival, chose this date after consulting with mule owners and considering the logistics for visitors traveling from outside the area. The move aims to ensure that the celebration does not hinder residents from casting their votes on Sunday.
The festivities will begin at 5:00 AM with a traditional rocket launch. The pilgrimage to the Sierra de San Pablo is expected to draw nearly 10,000 people, significantly exceeding the local population. The procession will feature dozens of traditional carts, carriages, and hundreds of horses traveling to the mountain area.
“"After learning the election date and confirming the overlap with the pilgrimage, the board met and chose Saturday as the most logical option."
Preparations for the event, which dates back to 1962, have been intense over the past few weeks. The carts, decorated by hand with hundreds of paper flowers, have been the focus of attention in local garages. The week has also included other events, such as the children's pilgrimage and the traditional Thursday of the Jury.
