The Provincial Union of Health and Socio-sanitary Sectors of CCOO of Cádiz has issued a press release alerting about the state of the facilities intended for resident doctors and attending physicians at the Hospital Universitario de Jerez de la Frontera. According to the union, these rooms present "inhumane" conditions due to years of neglect.
Among the highlighted problems are persistent dampness, peeling baseboards, holes in ceilings, and water leaks from air conditioning systems. This is compounded by a bed bug infestation that has necessitated fumigation.
CCOO warns of the risks to the health and well-being of workers arising from this situation, including bites, allergic reactions, respiratory problems, and dermatological conditions. Furthermore, they believe these conditions hinder the necessary rest during on-call shifts, affecting work well-being during particularly demanding periods.
The union organization considers that this situation could constitute a breach of the health administration's obligations regarding occupational risk prevention, by failing to guarantee adequate living, hygiene, and safety spaces for the staff.
Therefore, CCOO has demanded that the hospital's management undertake the necessary repairs, eradicate the infestation, eliminate dampness, and implement preventive measures. They also call for an action plan to provide alternative rest spaces and an urgent risk assessment, for which they have already submitted a communication to the Occupational Risk Prevention Unit.
These demands are in addition to previous claims regarding the condition of various hospital services, calling for comprehensive action to improve the maintenance and hygiene of the facilities.
