Devotees of the Virgen de la Cabeza, affectionately known as La Morenita, are closely monitoring weather forecasts just days before the pilgrimage. Following a stable Holy Week, the last weekend of April is set to begin with calima and muggy conditions, before rain makes an appearance at Cerro del Cabezo.
For Friday, affiliate brotherhoods are expected to be received at the Roman Bridge with temperatures reaching up to 24 degrees Celsius. However, the Aemet anticipates persistent calima that could lead to light muddy rain around 5:00 PM. Uncertainty will increase on Friday night and into Saturday morning, with thunderstorms forecast from 11:00 PM onwards.
On Saturday, the cavalry procession of the Cofradía Matriz will also face changing weather during its pilgrimage. The combination of calima and precipitation will result in episodes of muddy rain during the early morning and until 8:00 AM. Maximum temperatures will drop slightly to 20-21 degrees Celsius, and light rain is expected in the mid-afternoon, between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, although skies should clear by nightfall.
“"I don't understand a pilgrimage without that fraternity and coexistence."
Fortunately, Sunday is shaping up to be the most favorable day of the pilgrimage, with completely clear skies and bright sunshine for the procession of the Virgen de la Cabeza. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 26 degrees Celsius, allowing La Morenita to reunite with her faithful under a blue sky, thus concluding a pilgrimage that, in the heart of Sierra Morena, always holds surprises.
